The Smuggler: Chapter Two: The Rescuer

Chapter Two The Rescuer     Images and memories flashed through Moth's mind. He, Julia, and Peacock had long practiced in secret what to do if they needed to escape from HiveWing guards, whether before or after their Metamorphosis. They couldn't exactly practice what to do during it, because you can't exactly run or do anything for that matter except sleep while you're inside a cocoon. But they had practiced for other situations. After your Metamorphosis, you fly as fast as possible, shooting silk at your pursuers to distract them. And they had practiced what to do before it. They had practiced and shared tips with one another.     Moth grabbed one of the silk ropes.  Every rope is strong and can hold you.  He yanked himself onto it and jumped down to a lower section. He wound his tail around one and did a kind of flip, catapulting himself at the last second onto another platform.  Try to do complicated moves and stunts to distract and confuse the guards.  These thought

The Smuggler: Chapter One: Flamesilk

Chapter One Flamesilk     "Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!" Peacock's voice sounded in Moth's ear. "It's time to wake up!"     Moth grunted and rolled over. "A few more minutes."     "No! It's your Metamorphosis day! You can sleep later! For five days!"     "Peacock. Be quiet. We're trying to sleep," said Moth's sister, Julia, from another web. "We don't all wake up at midnight like you do."     "I don't wake up at midnight, Julia. Wake up, Moth!" Peacock jumped and landed on top of Moth.     Moth let out a startled  oof , and groaned. "Fine. Get off me and I'll wake up."     "Okay." Peacock leapt off and went over to wake up Julia.     Moth opened his eyes. The webs stretched in all directions, from Cicada Hive all the way to Hornet and Mantis Hives. He and his brother and sister didn't have a regular house like the rest of the SilkWings. They had managed to con

The Smuggler: Introduction and Prologue

The Smuggler Acknowledgements and stuff again: I didn't create all of these characters. To put it shortly, everything that appears in the Wings of Fire books by Tui T. Sutherland are not mine. Although I did create some of the characters. (Also I didn't create Skypeak Mountain or anything in it.) Okay. Back to the novella. Introduction: This is an alternate universe where Queen Wasp cannot control minds, and nothing from books 11-13 and the others after them ever happened. Prologue Danger from a Good Heart     In the hidden cave where almost no dragon ever ventured, a dragon stirred. Her scales were covered in shadow, and she was small for the great wisdom that shone in her eyes. Her memories whirled inside her head, as always. Everything she had experienced. She had been there at the beginning of time, and watched the world grow and expand. However, she had taken on the great burden of future-seeing and a sense of when danger will happen. Like now. Potential danger was rising

Fire Islands: Epilogue: The Endless Wait

I'm almost done with The Fire Islands! I didn't think it would take this long. Fifteen days. And I think my next one will probably be longer. All right, but I'm getting in head of myself here. First the epilogue. Epilogue The Endless Wait     Flicker shifted on the sun-baked rock. The wounds from the venom still gave off the slight impression that they were burning, but they were much better than before. The sun shone down, numbing the pain slightly. She closed her eyes and sighed. It felt like some part of her had left with the Pyrrian dragons. They had flown off a few days ago, with promises that they would return someday.     Flicker had been watching the sunrise, waiting for the sun to return. She had heard someone behind her and turned.     "Hey," Tsunami had said. "Feeling any better?"     Flicker had sighed. "A little. But not much. It'll help when the sun rises."     "You know, we have to leave today."     "Yeah. I kn

Fire Islands: Chapter Eleven: Scarred for Life

Chapter Eleven Scarred for Life     Tsunami landed with a thump beside her friend. She rolled her over out of the pool of venom and bent down closer to her. "Flicker! Are you all right?"     "What do you think?" asked Flicker through gritted teeth. She stared up at Tsunami, her eyes pleading. "Get the village. You have to reflect sunlight off of something. Two quick flashes, and wait for another flash. Don't look for it without the signal. You can't find it." She grimaced as a spasm went through her body. "Tell them...attacked by Venom-Spitter...Terror Rocks. Get...Blueberry and Shining...might as well Embers...Shade...Please, Tsunami!"     Tsunami's terror grew as Flicker's voice began fading. "Yeah, yeah. Sure. I'll be right back." She turned and catapulted herself back into the sky. Her head was reeling, random pictures of Flicker flashing her golden arm scale between mountains. She didn't have one. She could

Fire Islands: Chapter Ten: The Battle

Chapter Ten The Battle     The Venom-Spitter was a snake. It was so long that its visible part was fifteen yards outside the cave, and yet it still trailed into the blackness. It was as thick around as Tsunami's neck, and a deathly copper patterned with black diamonds, and an enormous hood flung out defensively around its head. It seemed to laugh at the two of them, revealing two-foot long fangs. The fangs' tips were the bright green color of the venom which was now sizzling on the rocks. Tsunami realized just in time what it was about to do and twisted in midair as more venom shot up past her.     "Three moons!" she yelled to Flicker. "How high can that venom shoot?"     "The highest recorded is twenty to twenty-five yards straight up!" Flicker yelled back, twisting as another jet shot at them. "Did I mention it can also talk?"     "I think you neglected to tell that to me!" Tsunami yelped and tucked her wings in in a dive as t

Fire Islands: Chapter Nine: Exploring

Chapter Nine Exploring     Flicker frowned in confusion. "I thought Blueberry told Shining that it would take a day or two."     Embers shrugged. "I'm just telling you what she said. She seemed surprised too."     "Great!" Starflight gently touched his talon to the ground, remembering his mental map of the town. "Where is Blueberry's hut?"     Flicker opened her mouth to reply, but then shot a look at Bask, who was snagging another dragonet off his back. She lifted her head again and said, "I will take you there." She turned to Violet. "Will you accompany us, or are you occupied?"     Violet grinned as if she was in on an inside joke. "I am already occupied, Flicker. Perhaps I may join you once these dragonets are under control."     Flicker rolled her eyes at her and leapt into the air. Tsunami gently touched Starflight with her tail to guide him into the air and they followed. As soon as they were out of ey

Fire Islands: Chapter Eight: The Boulder

Chapter Eight The Boulder     An excited chorus of squeaking came from behind them, and Flicker closed her eyes for a moment as if preparing herself, then turned. The rest of them followed her gaze and saw Bask leading the dragonets down the street. He was constantly grabbing little dragonets from sneaking away, and dodging their revenge attacks, and stopping them from sneaking away again. Then one of the dragonets who was climbing on his head perked up and shouted, "The Boulder!"     Flicker sighed and called, "Violet! Demon monster dragonets coming!" She paused and waited a second until a reply came back.     "Already? They just left like an hour ago!"     "Well apparently they want to do it again, now that they can imitate something other than paintings on a rock."     "What else do they have to imitate? Butterflies?" A dragon emerged from a nearby hut, and saw the three dragons. "Oh, three moons. What have you been up to, Flick

Fire Islands: Chapter Seven: The Notfish

Chapter Seven The Notfish     They were dragonets. About five, bouncing, enthusiastic dragonets. And one exhausted-looking SunWing, his gold scales standing out in contrast to his dark red scales. "Quiet down!" he hissed-whispered at them all. "This is the Hatchery! You have to be silent!"     "Is there trouble, Bask?" Flicker's voice drifted from the darkness. She emerged from the back of the room. She held herself almost regally, back straight and head high. She seemed to have put on a mask in front of this SunWing. Her eyes were steely and no amount of the humor she had had while playing with Shade could be seen on her.     "Flicker!" The SunWing jolted in surprise, then regained his posture and bowed his head. Tsunami frowned. Flicker seemed to be someone of high importance. Maybe Shade was the number one general or something. "No. No trouble. We just received word that the Boulder Dragons were here, and everyone wanted to see them.&

Fire Islands: Chapter Six: The SunWings

Chapter Six The SunWings     The SunWings were waiting at the peak. It seemed that their red scales ranged from a dull blood red to the shiny ruby red on Flicker and Embers. The sisters' color only appeared on one of them, the largest female. She wore no jewelry except for a thin golden circlet around her horns which was encrusted with rubies. She looked towards them as they approached. "Ah, thank the moons, Flicker and Embers." She frowned at the little dragonet who had carried the phoenix chick with her from the cave. "Bask is worried sick, Embers. You know better than to run off like that."     "But school is boring," complained Embers. "It's all,  yada yada yada, stay away from the Terror Rocks, yada yada yada, avoid contact with Glowsnakes, tons more yadas and warnings about Venom-Spitter."     The dragon sighed heavily. "Maybe I should give Bask permission to get chains from Slate. Although we'd have to hire one of the moon

Fire Islands: Chapter Five: Glowsnakes

Just a little thing right here before we start. If you have any novellas/short stories to share, I'm definitely open to new ideas. But this blog is about Wings of Fire fan fiction, so please do that. Also, you do not have to write the entire thing. Just a basic outline or even just a quick overview would totally be fine. It may not be posted for a while, because after the Fire Islands I'm thinking of two others whose names now are The Smuggler and Cursed. Just a little preview. Chapter Five Glowsnakes     "The what-" started Clay, but broke off as Flicker herded Embers to the other side of the cliff and they abruptly disappeared. Blueberry cast an anxious look over her shoulder before gently touching Glory with her tail and guiding her back to the spot where the two sisters had disappeared.     "Come," she whispered to the rest of them. "If Venom-Spitter finds out we're here, we're dead!"     "Who is Venom-Spitter?" Clay tried to
