Fire Islands: Introduction and Prologue

This blog is made up of fan fiction novellas from the series Wings of Fire by Tui T. Sutherland. This is my first post, so don't judge too harshly. Also, this is my mom's account so don't expect her other posts to look like this one.

The Fire Islands

Acknowledgements and stuff: This is a fan fiction novella based off of the Wings of Fire series by Tui T. Sutherland. The founders of the Jade Mountain Academy, the Jade Mountain Academy, Pyrrhia, Pantala, the dragon tribes, and other characters I may mention, are not mine. So please don't sue me. However, I did come up with the Fire Islands, Venom-Spitter, and the SunWing population. If you have come up with those or know someone who had a similar idea, I'm not trying to steal it from you. I just thought of them myself. Okay, done with the boring part. Here we go to the not-so-boring part.

Introduction: This is an alternate universe where the dragon tribes somehow ended the war in Pantala, peace reigns, and the school year has ended. And no one is more happy about that than the teachers. Glory has taken a break from being queen (she's definitely planning to come back), and managed to convince Deathbringer to have some alone time with her friends.

Prologue

The Snake

The air was still on this part of the island. No crickets chirped or frogs croaked. No breeze rustled the long-dead leaves hanging from the tree. Scorch marks scored the rocks, a few of them still sizzling. A large boulder sat on the edge of the island, a dark hole gaping below it, inky blackness threatening to overwhelm anything that dared come closer. Except for one thing. A movement stirred the dust in front of the cave mouth and a hooded snake slithered out into the outside world, where dusk was beginning to fall. It was as thick around as a dragon's neck, and had a copper back patterned with black diamonds. It was so long that it still trailed into the cave mouth after ten yards. It raised its head two meters off the ground and surveyed the darkening sky.

There! Two quick flashes flickered from the air. They were followed by another flash coming from in between two of the mountains. The snake made a mental note of where it came from. It hissed in pleasure and its forked tongue slithered between shining two-foot-long fangs. Tomorrow. Tomorrow it would strike. It gave the snake pleasure to remember its previous raids, the shrieks of terrified dragons as its minions perused their village.

It opened its gaping jaw and spoke, its words like the screeching of metal. "I am the bassse of your fearssss. I am the reassson your young our watched closssely. Why you ssssshy away from my part of the isssland. You live in conssstant fear of me. Me, the one you have given many namessss. The almighty Sssnake of the Fire Isssslandsss. The Monssster that Lurksss Your Dreamssss. The Terror of the Mountainssss. The Venom-Sssspitter." And with that, the snake turned and slithered back into its hole where its minions awaited.
